Supporting international applicants – from challenge to success

Monday 8 April 2019 16:40 -17:30
Discussion – a short presentation, mainly interactive
Open to all

Summary

This will be an interactive session, delivered jointly by UCAS and NCUK, where admissions colleagues can share their experiences of handling applications from international students, and identify the range of issues encountered. Those attending will get the opportunity to talk about quick fixes they have for any challenges, as well as more detailed actions taken with colleagues at their university, in managing applications from international students.

There will be a short presentation, giving some context of the trends in international applications to the UK, and application challenges from the student perspective. The discussion with admissions colleagues will focus on common errors made by international applicants, any trends for particular groups of students, along with potential solutions to support in overcoming challenges.

Learning outcomes:

(Delegates)

  • The common areas of the application international students have issues or challenges with. Delegates can share different experiences and scenarios, and how they dealt with any challenges and supported the students.
  • An opportunity to give feedback on potential improvements which could be made to the application process to support international applicants.
  • Information from NCUK and UCAS on the support students are given, and students’ perspectives on the process and challenges.

(NCUK/UCAS)

  • Information on the challenges faced by admissions staff when handling international applications, which can help us improve the services offered, and feed into the support process.
