The Office for Students (OfS) has funded a consortium of universities and further education colleges, led by the University of Exeter, to address challenges faced by students during the transition from further education to higher education. The session will summarise findings from an exploratory analysis, and the interventions developed to support the transition of students from vocational to higher education will be discussed. The ‘Transforming transitions’ project does not portray a deficit model for BTEC students but emphasises the need to develop inclusive pedagogies. The recommendations will be relevant for all teachers and advisers of students, irrespective of their prior qualification routes to higher education.
