Whatever help you need, our support teams are committed to giving you the advice, skills and practical tools to discover your full potential, all while helping to look after your health and wellbeing.
Alongside first-class academic and pastoral support, we offer plenty of financial support, from our Kick-Start scheme to scholarships, awards and fee waivers. Also, if you are a full-time, UK undergraduates starting in September 2025, you will automatically receive a free £5,000 to support your degree and help with everything from rent and food to transport costs. We firmly believe financial pressures shouldn't stop you from studying.
In terms of learning support, our Centre for Academic Skills and English (CASE) provides 1-2-1 tailored academic support, online skills materials, in-class skills and development sessions and much more. We even provide support for getting your English and maths up to speed.
The Learning Hub is your go-to resource for developing academic skills and exploring diverse learning methods at University College Birmingham. It provides guidance on various assignment types, such as essays, reports, and presentations, while offering essential tips on breaking down tasks, editing, proofreading, and formatting to help you submit top-quality work.
We also provide a higher education mentoring scheme, which helps to develop your academic knowledge, skills and understanding. This helps with career development, including advice on personal skills, image and profile. Enhancing personal growth and increasing confidence, the scheme teaches the skills required to help students take responsibility for themselves, their careers and their own development.
Through HIRED, students can tap into placements through our network of over 1,000 employer partners, ensuring you gain real skills for real jobs — aligned with what employers need.
Alongside study and employability support, we provide award-winning mental health and wellbeing, disability and neurodiversity support and our Student Engagement team is there to support all students during their university life, ensuring you have a single point of contact to discuss any issues you may be having while studying. The team has an open door policy that is available for any students seeking support or advice, whether this is around academic matters, financial issues, personal situations, or anything that may be a barrier to studying. If you are on campus, you are welcome to drop in.Our ultimate aim is to provide the best advice, guidance and support available, to manage your concerns and allow you to continue with your studies.
Our Guild of Students is the students’ union for University College Birmingham and is there to support all students. They will represent you and campaign to ensure you have everything you need to participate in everything the university has to offer. They will also help you ro find your people – running events and activities alongside a range of sports clubs and societies to help you meet new friends. We want you to feel like you are part of a real community at University College Birmingham and there is a huge range of societies and clubs you can join, covering sports, hobbies, identity, and academic areas. No matter what you’re interested in, there is something for you to get involved with.
The Guild also offers leadership opportunities, where you can become everything from a course rep or Guild officer, to develop your skills and help you gain life-long experiences.
