Student support

At Queen Margaret University we are dedicated to supporting students on their journey to higher education, throughout their studies and into their next destination and our Student Support Services play an important role in supporting all our students throughout their university experience.

Our staff within student support services, and throughout the University, aim to help students make the most of their time at University, to support learning, wellbeing and personal development.

All matriculated students can use student central to access extensive resources, events and information. They can also use it to make direct appointments with advisers from these support services: Effective Learning Service (ELS), Student Funding Service, Disability Service, Counselling and Wellbeing Service, and our Careers and Employability service. Some examples are provided below, but please visit our website for information on all services offered:

Effective Learning Service (ELS)

The Effective Learning Service (ELS) offers guidance and support to students who wish to develop their academic writing and study skills. Our aim is to help you become as self-reliant as possible as you progress through your degree programmes here at QMU.

Student Funding Service

The Student Funding Adviser provides one-to-one information, advice and guidance on the funding available to you when you are studying with us, including: Loans, bursaries and tuition fees; Benefits and studying; Childcare Fund; Discretionary Fund (formerly the Hardship Fund); Nursing Discretionary Fund; International Hardship Fund; Post-graduate funding; Part-time funding.

Disability Service

At QMU, we help current students who have a disability to access the support they need. The Disability Service provides friendly advice, guidance and information, and liaises with key staff throughout QMU to ensure reasonable adjustments are in place for eligible students during their studies.

Counselling and Wellbeing Service

This is a free service available to all matriculated students. We offer wellbeing support and short-term counselling, to help you with any personal issues and challenges which might be effecting your academic work as well as well as your general health and wellbeing.
