Queen Margaret University was established in 1875 and throughout our history we have focused on serving the community and improving the quality of life through education and research which is relevant to society’s needs. The Best of Both Worlds: Campus and City
Queen Margaret University is a safe, campus-based institution, which includes a variety of teaching and recently refurbished learning spaces, a residential village for 800 students, a students’ union, and a sports centre all in a beautifully landscaped environment. The University is located in Musselburgh, East Lothian, just outside Edinburgh’s city boundary. There are excellent transport links between the city centre and campus:
- Direct train service in under 10 minutes
- Regular buses and a night bus service
Edinburgh has excellent road, rail and air transport links making it easily accessible from all major cities in the UK and beyond, and allowing you to explore other parts of Scotland and the UK during your time at QMU. We are also served by an international airport, with direct flights to many destinations outside of the UK.
Tuition Fees and Scholarships
Reflecting the centrality of social justice to QMU’s ethos and the value we place upon diversity in the classroom, we aim to keep our course fees affordable to international students. You might be pleasantly surprised by our fee rates. See the Fees and Charges section of our website to view international fees per course. For international fee-paying students with a tuition fee above £12,500 per year, there are a number of competitive scholarships available worth £3000 each.
A Supportive Environment
QMU is a supportive University where students are a name, not a number. We many services to our students including Immigration and Student visa advise. Please see the Student support section for other services available. We host regular online events and drop-in sessions where you can engage with the International team to learn about studying at QMU.
Career Prospects
Students can secure part-time employment alongside their studies. Our Careers Service will support you in identifying suitable opportunities. We are the 1st Scottish university to host a Business Gateway on campus. We have supported 100 graduate start-ups in our on-campus QMU Startup Studio. In the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2024 (WUSCA) we are ranked top in Scotland for Career Prospects. QMU graduates are eligible for careers advice for life.
