What's it like to live in East Midlands?
Check out our region guide

The East Midlands comprises five counties, with its main cities being Derby, Leicester, Lincoln and Nottingham.

The region has plenty of history, boasting both the world’s first factory and its first pub (allegedly). It also has many castles, cathedrals and stately homes, including Chatsworth House, which has served as the backdrop to period films like Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice.

And, of course, you’ll find the gorgeous Peak District here. If you end up studying in the East Midlands, definitely make a trip to explore its rolling green hills, peatlands, and quaint market towns – like Buxton, the caverns of Castleton, and Bakewell (home of the famous tart).

Campus and facilities

The University of Derby is spread across several teaching and learning sites, located in or near the city centre. Derby is a relatively small city which means that all sites are conveniently within walking distance from the halls of residence and the city centre. For those rainy days, you can hop on one of our handy Unibuses which will get you from A to B.

Our main site is at Kedleston Road and features an outstanding Sports Centre, a four-storey library, a Multi-faith Centre and the Union of Students. You’ll also find lots of popular eateries including Starbucks and Subway.

The University of Derby also has a site in Chesterfield which is recognised as a Centre of Excellence for health and social care.

Accommodation

There are six undergraduate halls offering a range of accommodation to suit all budgets. Halls are arranged in flats for 4- 6 people and all residents have access to free or low cost Residence Life events and activities. Each hall has a common room, laundry and outside space.
