Prioritising your health and wellbeing
We offer tailored support packages for students with disabilities, including specific learning difficulties and mental health diagnoses as well as care leavers, estranged students and those with caring responsibilities or money worries. You can opt for a one-to-one appointment, attend a workshop, a group session, or access our online resources – whatever would make you feel most comfortable. You can also book an appointment with one of our support advisors before you start your studies so that we can make sure any adaptations are put in place ready for your arrival.
Equality, diversity and inclusion
We believe our diverse community is what makes the University of Derby such a special place to be. We are proud to welcome and celebrate students, staff and visitors from all walks of life, and seek to provide a positive environment where everyone has the freedom to express their true self. We do this through student-led societies, staff-led networks, campus celebration events and raising equality awareness. We operate a strict zero tolerance policy which covers all forms of discrimination.
Multi-Faith Centre
Kedleston Road is home to our Multi-Faith Centre where a team of friendly chaplains and faith consultants support students with their religious beliefs. The centre welcomes all students and offers a safe, peaceful and private space to meditate, pray or just escape the day.
Cost of living
Derby has been named the third most affordable UK city for students* but here at the University, we are going one step further to help ease your worries around money. Our fixed price accommodation comes with all-inclusive bills meaning there are no hidden costs to worry about. If you are looking for tips and tricks to make your money go further, you can speak to our Student Money Advisers in the Student Life team for their tried and tested budgeting advice.
Disability support
At the University, we provide bespoke support to all students with disabilities such as arranging accommodation that has been adapted to suit specific needs. The Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) is available as a non-repayable grant that can help you get the best out of your educational experience. It can be used to cover the cost of specialist equipment, a mentor or interpreter.
