In this captivating Subject Spotlight, Paul Sant presents: Computer Science: Space explanation, AI and beyond. He explains what computer science is, how it differs from information technology, as well as some of the fundamental skills for a computer scientist and how computer science has revolutionised industry. Paul then talks about why AI is the future for learning, considers the failings of AI, and discusses the impact of AI on society in the modern age. In episode 3, Paul discusses the role of computer science in the fascinating case study of the Mars Rover, which failed and crashed in 1999- the craft and the mission, how computer science handled the mission, what inevitably happened, and why. Finally, Paul discusses computer science in the 21st century, thinking about the new era of computer science, and how it has made the whole world a very small place. He also presents an activity where you can think critically about everything you have learnt in this Spotlight.

Meet the academics

Dr Paul Sant

Paul Sant is the Head of Computer Science at The University of Law, London. Paul is an experienced Associate Dean and Head of School with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry. Aside from very strong communication skills, Paul has a wide range of skills in Computer Science, PHP (a server scripting language), Computer Forensics, Data Science and lecturing. He is a Fellow of the British Computing Society, Chartered Institute for IT, Chartered IT Professional (CITP), a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Member of The Institution of Engineering and Technology.
