The National Statistics Postcode Lookup (NSPL) was updated in August 2024, so some attributes derived from applicant postcode may not match previous releases.

Population estimates for 2011-2021 have been adjusted using rebased population estimates at both country and LSOA21 level. These were published by the ONS and are consistent with the results of the 2022 Census in Scotland and the 2021 censuses in England & Wales and Northern Ireland. We have used LSOA21 estimates to approximate estimates for LSOA11s in order to calculate rebased estimates for POLAR4, IMD measures, TUNDRA and UK region. This affects data relating to the 2014-2024 application cycles, where population estimates may not match previous releases.

In the 2025 January deadline release, figures for the 2024 teacher training analysis have been updated to include additional courses which have now been identified as teacher training courses. An additional 30 applicants have been identified as having applied to a teacher training course in the 2024 application cycle.

In the 2024 application cycle, UCAS' gender classification was broadened to include new categories, which are included in UCAS' reporting. Application rates are currently only reported for men and women, due to the availability of population estimates for these two groups, and unavailability of population estimates for other groups. No attempt has been made to redistribute figures in the numerators or denominators of the application rates by gender. Given this, the application rates reported from the 2024 cycle onwards for men and women are lower than their true values.
