As of midnight, 28,900 applicants have been accepted into a Scottish university or college, a 2% increase compared to SQA results day last year.

Some 22,770 of accepted applicants are Scottish, an increase of 550 (2%) compared to the same stage last year.

By the end of the application cycle last year, 30,899 Scottish applicants were accepted by universities and colleges through UCAS, 29,362 at institutions in Scotland.

Applicants can log in to the new version of Track on the UCAS website this morning to see if they have been accepted or are eligible for Clearing – though they won’t be able to make a formal Clearing choice until early afternoon.

After checking their status in Track, eligible applicants can browse Clearing vacancies on the UCAS website. They’ll need to call universities and colleges beforehand to discuss courses that interest them, in search of a provisional offer.

All the information students need is on the UCAS website and expert advisers are also on hand to answer questions on 0871 468 0 468. Our social media team are also helping applicants on Twitter and Facebook.

Steve Jeffree, UCAS Chief Operating Officer said: “Congratulations to everyone who has secured a place at their chosen university or college in Scotland.

“There’s every reason to be positive if you find yourself in Clearing this year.

“Thousands of courses are available and there’s no requirement to stick with the same subjects you applied for originally. Do keep in mind, though, that admissions officers may want to explore your reasons for choosing something different.

“In fact, it’s wise to be well-prepared generally ahead of any conversations with universities and colleges about Clearing vacancies. Ask well informed questions about the course content and structure, with the aim of proving that you’re likely to succeed after four years of study.”

Students also have the option of applying again for entry next year and courses beginning in 2014 are now available to view on our website.

In 2012, 1,628 Scottish students found a place through Clearing, and 1,428 of those went to institutions in Scotland.

As of midnight, Scottish institutions have accepted:

  • 22,770 applicants from Scotland
  • 1,080 applicants from England
  • 30 applicants from Wales
  • 210 applicants from Northern Ireland
  • 3,070 applicants from other EU countries
  • 1,750 applicants from outside of the EU.
