Caitlin grew up in Surrey and attended The Ashcombe School in Dorking, and Reigate Sixth Form College, where she took A levels in biology, chemistry, English literature, and mathematics. During her A levels, she undertook a three-month placement at UCL, working in a lab that focused on Alzheimer’s disease, where she gained invaluable insight into scientific research.
After her A levels, Caitlin decided she wasn’t ready for university straightaway, so she took two gap years and worked in education full-time. During this time, she also studied for a Certificate of Higher Education at the Open University. After her gap years, she accepted a place at the University of Surrey to study biochemistry, and is currently in her first year.
Caitlin’s hobbies are reading (in particular, classics and dystopian novels), baking, and crafting (needle-felting, crochet, and origami). When she’s not studying, Caitlin works with children and young people as an outreach and widening participation ambassador, and also as a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) ambassador. Caitlin would like to continue working in education after she has competed her degree.
