Thomas joined the University of Dundee in early 2015, to deliver strategic and executive leadership for the university’s external relations. The External Relations Directorate is part of Professional Services, and covers all aspects of the student life cycle, from student recruitment and admissions (including international), widening access, public engagement and major events, marketing and communications, web services, design and print, as well as development and alumni relations.
After graduating from Tübingen University, Germany in 1992, Thomas joined Guinness Plc as part of their executive graduate trainee scheme, and subsequently worked for over 15 years in marketing roles in the UK and internationally, amongst others for Diageo and Scottish-Newcastle.
Since 2007, he has worked in various higher education roles, amongst others Head of International Office at De Montfort University, and Director of Student Recruitment for the University of Birmingham. Before joining the University of Dundee, Thomas was the Director of External Relations at the University of Leicester. He is a member of the University Executive Group (UEG) at the University of Dundee.
His professional interests are in UK and international HE policy, and he is a non-executive advisory board member for WonkHE. He is also a Trustee and Non-Executive Board member of DCA Dundee (Dundee Contemporary Arts), an internationally renowned centre for contemporary art that enables audiences, artists, and participants to see, experience, and create.
