Contextualised admissions – what does it mean for students?

Tuesday 5 February 2019 15:00 – 15:50

Summary

Contextual data and information can be used by universities and colleges to assess an applicant’s achievement and potential in light of their educational and socio-economic background. The aim is to form a more complete picture of an individual applicant. As a teacher or adviser, it’s important to be aware of this practice, so you can give the best advice to your students. Contextualised admissions encourage aspirational applications, and may help explain why a student has received a certain offer.

Outcomes:

  • Gain insight into the latest research published by the Fair Education Alliance (FEA) identifying good practice in contextualised admissions.
  • Find out about the varied uses of contextual data and information at different stages of the application process.
  • Learn about the approach taken by the University of Manchester to contextualised admissions.
  • Understand how UCAS supports universities and colleges with contextualised admissions, and how to find out more.
