What's it like to live in West Midlands?
Check out our region guide

The West Midlands is made up of Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, and Worcestershire. Its main cities are Birmingham, Coventry, and Wolverhampton.

It’s the most diverse part of the country behind London, with a proud multicultural history, from the birth of Two-Tone music in Coventry – a combination of Caribbean ska and English punk – to the Balti curry, courtesy of Birmingham’s Pakistani community.

Once the heart of heavy industry and manufacturing, and the inspiration for Peaky Blinders, Birmingham is one of the youngest cities in Europe, with over 40% under 25 years old.

Campus and facilities

College Road Campus was formerly the Royal National College building.  This outstanding arts and crafts style building provides a perfect base for the independent arts school.

This is the main base for the University-Level community with plenty of affordable student housing near-by, including our new Station Approach accommodation.

The College building features course-specific studios, a variety of specialist workshops, an on-site library, performance space, photographic studios and stores, dark rooms, and IT facilities including a state-of-the-art digital suite added in 2024.  The campus has an abundance of social space, a large hall ideal for sports and recreation, and canteen facilities.

Accommodation

HCA's dedicated College accommodation at Station Approach is conveniently located between our two college campuses’ and Hereford city centre. The accommodation has internal and external space for exhibitions, making it a true creative hub.
