Student life

At Cardiff University you won’t simply benefit from being a part of a team who are working together to change the world – but you’ll also get to enjoy the incredible facilities we have in place to help our students succeed.

Our Students’ Union was recently voted 2nd best SU in the WhatUni Student Choice Awards 2024. Spanning the Cathays and Heath Park campuses, the Students’ Union has its HQ in a purpose-build facility in the centre of Cardiff that houses cafes, shops, bars, a letting agency, a Post Office, 24-hour flexible study spaces & much more.

A brand new £50m Centre for Student Life is home to a range of services providing easy access to any support you may need with your studies, health & wellbeing, preparing for your future, managing your money & living in Cardiff.

Our campus is set up to offer you 24/7 support with whatever you need. Financial advice, careers advice, a little extra support with your mental wellbeing; we are here to help you to live your best student life.

With beautiful hills and coastlines to explore by foot, bike, surfboard or zipline, Wales offers a great student experience and a wide range of universities connected to their local communities.

The country has a little of everything – historic cities like Cardiff and Swansea, pretty coastal towns, and three national parks including Snowdonia, home to the highest mountain in Wales. If you love the outdoors, you’ll be right at home.

Wales has a long history of sporting achievement, literature, and history. Perhaps you'll hear some tales over some rarebit – a traditional dish that puts cheese on toast to shame.

Campus and facilities

Cardiff University is split across two campuses. Our Cathays Park Campus spreads across the city centre, bringing the old and the new together in a juxtaposition of history and industry.

Our beautiful listed buildings sit alongside modern, purpose-built facilities which showcase our commitment to sustainability and innovation.

You’ll have quick and easy access to our 24-hour libraries and over 2,500 study spaces, including private pods and bookable group areas.

There’s also plenty of spots to catch up with friends and have a bite to eat with a range of cafes, restaurants and pubs.

Our second site is based at Heath Park where our schools of dentistry, healthcare and medicine are based.

Students from these academic schools benefit from being part of the UK’s largest teaching hospital which supports their learning and prepares them for the future. Heath Park has its own dedicated student facilities with good transport links to get you to and from Cathays in just over 10 minutes.
