Student life

Our Students’ Union is the hub of student life on campus, but your options don’t end there.

Relax with friends in halls, check out the Lakeside Arts Centre, visit the Farmers’ Market or enjoy our gardens, woodlands and lake. You can also join one of our many societies or sports clubs.

Meanwhile, the city of Nottingham beckons with its legendary tales of Robin Hood and UNESCO City of Literature status. You’re never short of things to do here. Think museums, theatres, music festivals, Premier League football, the National Ice Centre and one of the oldest pubs in England, built into the caves of Nottingham castle.

As for nightlife, Nottingham has something for everyone – from unique games bars, beer gardens and cocktail bars to buzzing live music venues and nightclubs.

For foodies, there’s a mix of cafes, restaurants, delis and markets. If shopping is your thing, small independents nestle alongside high street names, while the trendy Hockley area is the place to grab a vintage bargain.

What's it like to live in East Midlands?
Check out our region guide

The East Midlands comprises five counties, with its main cities being Derby, Leicester, Lincoln and Nottingham.

The region has plenty of history, boasting both the world’s first factory and its first pub (allegedly). It also has many castles, cathedrals and stately homes, including Chatsworth House, which has served as the backdrop to period films like Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice.

And, of course, you’ll find the gorgeous Peak District here. If you end up studying in the East Midlands, definitely make a trip to explore its rolling green hills, peatlands, and quaint market towns – like Buxton, the caverns of Castleton, and Bakewell (home of the famous tart).

Outlaws, caves, and some of England's oldest pubs make Nottingham far from your average student city.

Campus and facilities

Woodlands, meadows, lakes – no wonder our UK campuses are multiple Green Flag award winners. With natural beauty sitting alongside study spaces, we offer the best of both worlds. University Park is spread across 300 acres, with 12 halls of residence, 3 libraries, David Ross Sports Village, Lakeside Arts Centre and our Students’ Union.

Nearby Jubilee Campus boasts futuristic, eco-friendly buildings and a library on a lake, while beautiful Sutton Bonington offers a dairy farm, stables and our popular farmers’ market.

Did you know we were the first UK university to establish campuses in both China and Malaysia? Benefiting from this tri-campus structure, our UK undergraduates can apply to spend a semester, year or summer at these exciting international campuses.
