University of Surrey
Guildford
International
The University of Surrey was established on 9 September 1966 with the grant of its Royal Charter, but its roots go back to a late 19th-century concern to provide greater access to further and higher education for the poorer inhabitants of London.
Global Impact
Internationalisation permeates all that we do at Surrey, contributing significantly to our mission to solve global challenges, lead research and innovation, and fuel generations of students with a spirit of curiosity and a desire to improve the world we live in.
Research
At Surrey, over 50 per cent of our research outputs feature an international co-author. With partnerships and collaborations across the world, the University's approach to research is truly global.
Global Partnerships
The University of Surrey is a founding member of the University Global Partnership Network (UGPN), a foundation for international collaboration that enables academics and students from some of the world’s top universities to work together on issues of global importance.
SII-DUFE
Surrey International Institute-DUFE (SII-DUFE) is a joint academic partnership institution between the University of Surrey and Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (DUFE) in Dalian, China.
Learning Experience
The University of Surrey has a long history of welcoming students and academics from all around the world, creating a truly international learning experience.
International students at Surrey
Together, the International Recruitment team and the Student Support team provide a professional and dedicated advisory service to all prospective and currently registered international students.
As well as offering advice on admissions requirements, immigration and visa issues, they also organise a meet-and-greet service, international orientation sessions, pre-departure guidance and events for students and their families throughout the year.
Global citizens
The Global Graduate Award (GGA) is part of the University’s Internationalisation Strategy, aiming to encourage student mobility, support students who want to spend their Professional Training placement abroad, and enhance student employability in the global marketplace.
The award is open to all students and is free of charge. Students are invited to start a new language, brush-up on a half-forgotten one, or continue with a language they want to keep up in future.
Languages available include Arabic, British sign language, Chinese, Korean, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
Student and staff global opportunities
More than 200 Surrey students study or work abroad every year.
Depending on a chosen degree subject, students can spend a semester or full year studying at one of our partner universities – either in another part of Europe with Erasmus funding, or as far afield as New Zealand, Hong Kong, South Korea, the USA, Canada, Australia, Thailand or Singapore.
In addition, an international Professional Training placement remains a popular choice for more adventurous students.
