Study in London

St Mary’s University is a modern, friendly and welcoming university situated in the leafy borough of Richmond-upon-Thames and just a short train journey away from the hustle and bustle of Central London.

With over 6,000 students you’ll quickly feel at home, whilst still being offered all the challenges and excitement of a rewarding student experience.

We have been building a reputation of excellence in education since being established in 1850 and whilst being centred by key Catholic values of fairness, respect and generosity, we are of course welcoming to students of all faiths and none.

A High Quality Education

62% of our outgoing undergraduates in 2015/16 achieved a 2:1 or First Class Honours degree. Our team of experienced and respected academics, many of whom are leading experts in their areas, are passionate about what they teach and strive to empower their students with knowledge.

At St Mary’s it’s often said that you’re known by name and not by number. Lecturers are dedicated to their students and will support your development throughout your time here.

The success of our graduates goes beyond their degree classification, with 95% of students in employment or postgraduate study within six month of graduating (HESA, 2017). Our Centre for Workplace Learning offers you work experience modules embedded within your degree and our excellent Careers Service will help you during your degree and after you graduate.

Flexibility and Support

We offer a wide range of undergraduate degrees, many of which can be combined to create a joint honours programme shaped to fit your aims.

There is also a varied offering of foundation, postgraduate, PGCE, research and short course opportunities, allowing you a suitable pathway regardless of your previous academic experience.

Our aim at St Mary’s isn’t just to help you achieve high grades; our community approach means we also want to encourage you on a personal level.

Our Student Services team is on hand to support you in a range of areas including finance, disability, housing, counselling and wellbeing, whilst the Chaplaincy and Students’ Union teams will work to make sure you enjoy every minute of your time at St Mary’s.

Leisure and Lifestyle

The Students’ Union (SU), whilst being there to support you, is also on hand to offer an exciting social life both on and off campus. The SU organises all kinds of entertainment, from weekly events through to major annual occasions such as Welcome Fortnight, Summer Ball and SIMMStock – our very own music festival.

We also have an excellent reputation for sport, with numerous successes every year. Most recently 22 St Mary’s athletes competed at the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic games, collecting a total of nine medals.

With Olympic-standard facilities, Sport St Mary’s offers a broad range of student sport for all levels. From social activities right through to elite athlete support, there’s something on offer to suit you.

Life in London

We are located in a very green area of South West London, with both Bushy Park and Richmond Park a short bus ride away.

There are several shops and restaurants in within walking distance in Twickenham and Teddington, plus plenty more shops, cinemas, nightclubs and more in the nearby towns of Richmond and Kingston.

Twickenham is also the home of England rugby. The national team play at the nearby Twickenham Stadium and Premiership team Harlequins at The Twickenham Stoop.

Jumping on a train at Strawberry Hill Station (a five minute walk from campus) will get you to London Waterloo and into the centre of a capital city with endless possibilities!
