Following publication of our interim assessment of students accepted to UK higher education, UCAS has produced a map (also attached) which illustrates the flow of students between UK countries.
At this point, 435,430 UK students are due to start full-time undergraduate courses in UK higher education in 2014-15.
This is an increase of 14,980 (+ 4%) compared with the same stage last year.
The map shows that around 30,000 UK students have chosen to study in a different UK country this year.
The largest flows of students within the UK are:
- 10,590 English students have chosen to study in Wales, compared with 8,040 Welsh students who will study at English institutions.
- Over 4,000 students will leave Northern Ireland to start a course in England and Scotland. Around 500 students from England and Scotland will study in Northern Ireland.
- There are 3,000 more English students studying in Scotland, than there are Scottish students studying in England.

NOTES TO EDITORS
This ‘entry year’ figure strips out ‘gap year’ students who have deferred entry to 2015-16, but does include those starting this year after being accepted for deferred entry last time round.
Current UK and EU acceptances to the 2014-15 entry year at this point are 461,510 (+4%).
Current total acceptances to the 2014-15 entry year at this point are 499,730 (including over 38,000 international students). This is an increase of 18,600 (+4%).
Typically a further 10,000 or so further recruits will be recorded by UCAS before the 2014 cycle closes in October.

The deadline for universities and colleges to accept Clearing applicants is 22 October 2014. The final End of Cycle report will be published in December 2014.
