Update on data for HESA transaction (Star J) 2017 – action required to test

The Star J data for the 2017 cycle is planned for release in mid-November.

Posted Wed 23 August 2017

The data forms part of the Student Record required by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA). Some providers in England also use the data to support their Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) returns. In July/August, we informed you that HESA has confirmed there are no changes for UCAS to apply to Star J for 2017.

We plan on making the Star J data for 2017 available in our HEP1 test environment on Friday 15 September 2017. If you want test data set up for Star J 2017, you must have some placed 2017 applicants in this test environment. Please ensure you have created or requested sufficient test applicants to be available.

You can submit test data requests via the ServiceNow portal. The deadline for submitting Star J test data requests is 12:00 on Friday 8 September 2017, and you must import these before midday on Thursday 14 September 2017.

More information and access to the ‘Specification of the UCAS data for HESA (*J) 2017’ is available on the HESA return page on ucas.com.

Further information on using our test environments can be found on the Test and training environments web page.
