This means that some applicants who do not have a UK or BFPO address to enter into the UCAS application will not see the new ‘More About You’ questions (with the exception of the disability/mental health question), and may be inadvertently categorised as an international student.
UCAS is working with organisations such as MOD, SCiP Alliance and the AFF to raise awareness of this issue and to encourage these applicants to contact the university to discuss their situation, as well as to use the references/personal statement to draw attention to their circumstances where appropriate. We will update our student advice and adviser toolkits to reflect this.
If you’ve encountered any similar issues, please contact Nicola Turner at n.turner@ucas.ac.uk so we can monitor the situation. We politely remind providers that the information in the application alone should not be used to determine fee status, and a conversation with the applicant should be initiated to confirm their status. Please refer to our good practice briefing that supports the introduction of this new question.
