StarJ for the 2019 cycle – available on 21 November

We’re pleased to confirm the UCAS Data for HESA transaction (StarJ) is now available to download.

Posted Tue 19 November 2019

In the StarJ communication sent on Monday, we incorrectly referred to the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) – this should have been the Office for Students (OfS). Apologies for any confusion.

Accessing the StarJ data

If you receive your StarJ data via odbc-link or xml-link, the timestamp is set to 21/11/2019 09:00:00.

If you’ve asked for a StarJ flat file, this will be available through MOVEit, the secure file transfer service. The files will use the following name convention (CCC is your provider code):

  • UCAS Undergraduate – hesuCCC
  • UCAS Teacher Training – hesgCCC
  • UCAS Conservatoires – hescCCC

You can find out more, and access the 'Specification of the UCAS Data for HESA Transaction (*J) 2019', on the HESA return web page. If you have any queries about accessing the StarJ files, please contact our HEP Team on 0344 984 1111, or at hep_team@ucas.ac.uk.

Additional statistical data

At the end of the cycle, you can request further statistical data (StarX) for each applicant referred to your provider in the previous cycle.

It will not contain data for any cancelled or completely withdrawn applications, and is only available through the link products. Details of what’s included is on the Availability of UCAS data web page.

You can request StarX data through the UCAS ServiceNow portal.
