Reformed science A levels (biology, chemistry, and physics) awarded in 2017 in England will be allocated two grades:
- an A* – G grade based on a learner’s achievement in their examination
- a pass/not classified grade based on their practical ability. This will be assessed through a minimum of 12 internally assessed practicals
Feedback from the sector suggests the practical grade will be of value to the admissions process. Therefore, we would like to inform you of the following developments:
- For 2017 entry (when all reformed science A levels awarded will be pending), the referee will be able to indicate whether a learner is predicted to achieve their practical grade or not.
- For 2018 entry, a learner will be able to indicate whether they have achieved the practical grade in Apply (if the qualification has already been awarded).
- We intend to provide the practical to you through Awarding Body Linkage (ABL).
