As communicated previously, the Higher Education Classification of Subjects (HECoS ) framework is being developed under the Higher Education Data and Information Improvement Programme (HEDIIP). It will replace the current JACS scheme and will satisfy a wider set of requirements relating to the subject of study in higher education.
The project is being undertaken by the Centre for Educational Technology, Interoperability and Standards (CETIS) which has carried out extensive stakeholder engagement to identify the requirements for the new coding system. Public consultation on the HECoS scheme, its content, governance and adoption, runs until the end of May, and there is a webinar for interested parties on 23 April.
You will find all the information you need, including more about the webinar, on the project's website at subjectcoding.wordpress.com, and the HECoS scheme itself is at www.ovod.net/tematres.
