The 'Release into Clearing' procedure can be used in exceptional cases, if an applicant has a valid reason for requesting a release from a place accepted as an unconditional firm (UF) commitment, or through Clearing in the 2017 cycle.
You should use the RR transaction in web-link, odbc-link, or xml-link to make the applicant eligible for Clearing, so they can seek an alternative place.
To do this in web-link, access the applicant’s record and then:
- click on +/- in the decision column
- select RR Release into Clearing
- select the reason code
To do this through odbc-link or xml-link:
- the transaction is made up of the UCAS Personal ID and a two character 'reason code’
The reason codes are:
- R1 Financial hardship
- R2 Personal (e.g. death of a relative or other strong personal reason)
- R3 Significant changes to course at releasing provider
- R4 Sponsorship/scholarship award
- R5 Other*
- R6 Change of level of qualifications
- R7 Change of subject code to be studied
- R8 Wish to defer
- R9 Transfer to new provider
Please note, these are not visible to the applicant.
*When specifying reason code R5, you have the option to include additional details up to 57 characters. We recommend you use this feature to ensure future analysis is valuable. Additional text strings may not be included when using other reason codes. You must use free text, e.g. R5 'Applicant wishes to study from home'.
