Publication of historical entry grades

To support students in making informed choices, we publish information from universities and colleges on stated entry requirements.

For a range of reasons, applicants are often accepted onto courses with grades both above and below the published requirements. There have been calls from advisers and sector bodies to increase transparency around the grades applicants are ultimately accepted with, to provide clarity and aid informed decision-making.

We’ve collaborated with a representative group of universities, colleges, schools, and students to identify the most appropriate way to surface the grades applicants held when they were accepted onto undergraduate courses. In January, we’ll be releasing a new tool for advisers to show the A level, BTEC, and SQA Higher grades applicants held when accepted, across the 2017-2019 application cycles.

The data will be available at course level for providers who accept over 50 eligible applicants. Primary correspondents at providers who meet that threshold were sent an email and data file (via MOVEit) on Monday confirming the action to be taken, which includes the option to supply a contextual statement.

If you didn’t receive an email from us on Monday, it’s because you didn't accept over 50 eligible applicants. You can still provide a contextualised statement for inclusion in the tool though – by Monday 21 December.
