Public reporting of 2015 cycle application statistics – September

Tomorrow (Thursday 1 October 2015) we will publish the final set of application statistics for the 2015 UCAS Teacher Training cycle. The reference point for these statistics is Monday 21 September 2015. The statistics are provided to you under embargo until they are published at 10:00 (UK time) on Thursday 1 October, and the media will not receive the data beforehand. The statistics will be published on the UCAS Teacher Training statistical releases page in the corporate section of our website. The reports follow a similar format to last year’s public statistical reporting; • Report A covers applicants • Report B covers applications Key findings Applicants/accepts Out of a total of 47,200 current applicants, there have been 29,100 firmly placed (either CF or UF) into teacher training roles through UCAS Teacher Training. Of these, 24,600 have been confirmed by their provider and are therefore unconditionally placed. This means the acceptance rate is currently 51%, although 62% of applicants are currently firmly placed (either CF/UF). In comparison with the third Monday in September in 2015, we identify this group to have 53,800 applicants, with 30,500 firmly placed (24,600 are UF). Please note: that not all of these CFs were converted to UFs by the end of the last cycle, and so the number of acceptances in 2014, was actually significantly below the figure of 30,000. As a percentage, the acceptance rate at this point in 2014 (considering only UFs) was 46%. However, by the end of the cycle in 2014 the acceptance rate was 52%, and so we need a further 1% of applicants to be converted to UF state in order for the acceptance rate to match that of the last cycle. Applications/accepts to English providers In the current cycle, we have 128,500 applications to England. In September 2014, this was 138,600, and so English providers have seen a reduction in applications of 7%. However, there are currently 28,100 applicants CF/UF to English providers, whilst at the public reporting date in September 2014, there were 27,300 CF/UFs to this provider group. This is an increase of nearly 3% on last cycle’s figures. The technical notes at the end of each report explain the releases in further detail. The reports are subject to final minor amendments.
