Name-blind applications

As many of you know, we had a very useful session about unconscious bias at our Annual Admissions Conference in March.

Posted Thu 21 April 2016

Over 100 delegates attended and gave their input into a number of areas, looking at the introduction of name-blind applications and its impact on processes. The outputs reaffirmed what we already know, but it was also useful for highlighting particular areas of concern.

Next steps:

  • Following steer from the UCAS Board, we will soon be publishing a short and high level report on tackling unconscious bias and our subsequent proposals.
  • We will be hosting a workshop with providers at the end of April, to discuss their internal admissions processes and tasks.
In early summer, we’ll be launching a consultation about our proposals on addressing unconscious bias – this will include a section on functionality and masking information. We’ll be working with our external panel to help shape the consultation document.
