Important information about the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) results embargo for August 2020

Starting this year, the lifting of the JCQ results embargo will move from 06:00 to 08:00 on JCQ results day, 13 August 2020.

Posted Wed 26 February 2020

This will affect A level results, and a number of other qualifications – the full list can be found on JCQ’s website.

The announcement means that students won’t be able to access their results (including A levels, AS levels, and Extended Project Qualifications), and you won’t be able to communicate with applicants awaiting results, before this time.

This decision follows discussions between JCQ, UCAS, DfE, qualification regulators around the UK, and colleagues from the secondary and higher education sectors, including the Sixth Form Colleges Association (SFCA). JCQ has subsequently decided that, to support students who may need advice, the lifting of the results embargo should align to support being available from schools, universities and colleges, and UCAS.

The time change, which is an extension to the previous embargo period, brings this all into alignment, and has been implemented to ensure applicants’ wellbeing at a key point in their application journey. The 2020 embargo training will be fully updated to reflect this change.

Please note, JCQ has also extended the embargo for GCSE results the following week (20 August).

For more information about these changes, read JCQ’s announcement.
