EU providers as UCAS customers

Clarification over press coverage relating to EU providers becoming UCAS customers.

Posted Mon 2 March 2015

Last month, there was some press coverage relating to EU providers becoming UCAS customers. As a result of this, we would like to clarify that:

  • in 2013 we changed our criteria to differentiate between customers and legal members and to ensure that all new customers meet stringent quality standards. This is applicable for applications from UK and EU providers
  • we have received and accepted one application from an EU provider who met all the criteria and therefore became a UCAS customer in December 2014
  • it is important to stress that we continue to operate and comply with both UK and EU competition legislation, and apply the same criteria for access to our services equally across all providers within the jurisdiction

The Board of Trustees is regularly informed about applications from providers who apply to access UCAS services by the UCAS Executive.

Further information about becoming a provider and the criteria for qualification to full legal membership is available on ucas.com.

If you receive enquiries from media outlets, you can refer them in the first instance to the UCAS External Relations Department on 01242 545 469 or email communications@ucas.ac.uk
