Over the last few years, the numbers of applicants using Adjustment have been declining, with 1,038 applicants placed through Adjustment in 2017 but only 259 in 2020.
Furthermore, the most advantaged applicants use Adjustment more than those from the more disadvantaged socioeconomic groups.
Since the introduction of applicant self-release in 2019, it has become easier for applicants to take control of their choices at results time and search for options they prefer even if they are holding an unconditional firm choice. In this environment, Adjustment is an unnecessary additional complexity for applicants, advisers and providers to navigate.
