Course Collect balance indicator changes

We’ve noticed a recent increase in the number of programmes which have had the balance indicator field changed by providers on Course Collect. The balance indicator field on the programme details page should indicate the overall weighting of the programme, as shown below: • single – the programme covers one subject area (e.g. mathematics) • balanced – the programme covers two distinct subject areas equally (e.g. mathematics and French) • triple – the programme covers three distinct subjects equally (e.g. French, mathematics and business) • major/minor – the programme covers one subject the majority of the time (e.g. one subject for up to 75% and another subject for around 25% of the time) • combined – the programme offers the opportunity to study a wide range of subject areas to make up the whole degree award The balance indicator you select has a direct relationship to the number of primary Joint Academic Coding System (JACS) that can be assigned to it. Changing the balance indicator and subsequently the number of JACS may mean the programme no longer appears in the same comparison set when using any of the Tracker products. Please refer to the programme and courses section of the Course Collect Manual for more information. If you have any queries relating to the balance indicators assigned to your programmes, please contact the Data Collection Team on 01242 544 864 or email coursesdata@ucas.ac.uk.
