Changes to Technology and Operations leadership

Earlier this year, we launched our refreshed strategy, Future Focus. Following this, we are now pursuing a number of timely opportunities.

Posted Wed 4 July 2018

None of these will be easy to achieve, but to best prepare ourselves for this challenge, the Technology and Operations department has now been divided to enable a director’s focus in both areas.

Fatuma Mahad decided to take this opportunity to leave UCAS after seven successful years, and the recruitment process will begin shortly for the permanent positions of Director of Operations and Chief Technology Officer. In the interim, I’m pleased to confirm:

  • Fiona Johnston has been appointed Interim Director of Operations. Fiona has been with UCAS since 2013, latterly leading Analysis and Insights as Interim Director. Fiona has worked in the HE sector for over 15 years, and is passionate about delivering brilliant outcomes for students and providers
  • Andy Irving has been appointed as Interim Director of Technology. Andy has been with UCAS for five years, and has over 25 years’ experience in different technology environments across the private and public sectors, including major digital transformations

Fiona and Andy will provide our operational and IT teams with direction and leadership over the next few months. Their immediate focus is to lead and support our experienced teams, and utilise our proven processes and systems to ensure the delivery of a successful Confirmation and Clearing.

In addition, they will be looking at the future changes and investments we have planned to support Future Focus.
