Changes to our Application and Decision Tracker for the 2019 cycle

Our Application and Decision Tracker currently relies on JACS codes to identify similar courses, for reporting and benchmarking a provider’s overall sector performance.

To maintain the accuracy and quality of this data, we’ll use the JACS codes you’ve given us for the 2018 cycle and previous cycles.

However, as it’s mandatory for all 2019 courses to be assigned HECoS codes, we‘ve developed a model which uses the information you tell us about your new courses, to assign relevant JACS principal subject codes – also referred to as subject groups or subject lines.

The information we’ll use includes:

  • the course’s assigned HECoS codes and their associated percentages
  • the title of the course
  • how you, or other providers, have previously classified similar courses

We’ve thoroughly tested this model, to make sure the accuracy and reliability of the data, and current level of reporting you receive, are sustained for the 2019 cycle.

We’re using this as an interim solution, while the sector moves away from JACS codes. The development of our 2019 Application and Decision Tracker is ongoing, and we’ll give you more information about it in the coming weeks. In the meantime, if you have any queries, please contact your relationship manager.
