The activities of UCAS’ Consumer Rights Working Group (CRWG)

In light of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA)’s advice to UK universities and colleges, we’ve established an internal Consumer Rights Working Group (CRWG) to identify, implement, and review changes to UCAS’ systems and processes.

Posted Wed 13 January 2016
Since its formation in July, we’ve reviewed our applicant-facing information and advice, documents, and processes, to make sure they’re clear and informative. This includes published consumer rights advice on ucas.com, as well as revised applicant letters. We have also amended the regulations to reflect the rights of applicants, who now have 14 days (increased from seven days) to change their replies once, after replying to their offers. This is reflected in the Admissions Guide 2016.

We’re continuing to work with the CMA to ensure our customers are well-informed of their consumer rights and obligations.

We’ll be sharing some of the CRWG’s work at the next Undergraduate Advisory Group meeting, and using examples to explore the challenges the sector faces in complying with consumer legislation. If you have a particular scenario you would like to be discussed, please contact your Relationship Manager. This topic will also be discussed at the Admissions Conference, and we’ll be looking for providers to volunteer to share their experiences. If you would like to be involved, again please contact your contact your Relationship Manager.
