Action required by odbc-link users

Users will be aware that, due to the way we’ve designed odbc-link in our cloud infrastructure, we currently ask you to open your firewalls to a large number of IP ranges.

Posted Wed 2 November 2016

This is to ensure you can access odbc-link, in the event of the service failing over to resilient infrastructure in our cloud architecture.

We’re pleased to let you know we’ll be making some changes to the way you connect to odbc-link over the next few months, so eventually you’ll only need to open your firewalls to two separate IPs.

The first stage of this work is to request that all providers using odbc-link send us the IPs/IP ranges they connect to the odbc-link service from (test and live), so we can whitelist these on our firewall. Once we’ve whitelisted your IPs, we’ll provide you (through this bulletin) with new odbc-link connection details, and the two IPs you’ll need to whitelist on your firewalls to access the new odbc-link architecture.

Please send your IPs using the table format below to UCAS IT Engagement by Wednesday 30 November 2016. (Please remember to send the IPs/IP ranges you connect to the HEP1 and HEP2 odbc-link test services from, as well as the live environments.)
