Environmental statement
January 2025
Direction
UCAS recognises that its activities impact the environment, and that the protection of the environment is fundamental to the future health and wellbeing of all those involved with the organisation and the wider community. As such, we accept our responsibility to make sure we operate and develop in a sustainable way. We will ensure that continuous improvement in environmental performance is embedded into our business model, the management of our facilities and estate, and our culture.
Approach
UCAS will take all reasonably practical measures to fully integrate environmental considerations within our decision making and everyday behaviour.
We will achieve this by:
- Complying with legislation, regulations, and codes of practice on environmental matters relevant to UCAS' operations e.g. Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme, Streamlined Energy & Carbon Reporting, and Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards Regulations 2027.
- Using a lifecycle approach to identify issues that are environmentally significant, and establishing meaningful objectives and programmes to address them.
- Monitoring and improving our environmental performance.
- Communicating and promoting our environmental intentions and performance to staff and other stakeholders, encouraging staff participation in environmental activities.
- Providing the appropriate leadership, management and resources, and building the right capabilities to support our environmental aims.
- Continually improving our environmental management system to enhance environmental performance.
- Reducing waste created and increasing recycling, reusing and repurposing through the development of effective resource and waste management approaches.
- Avoiding or limiting, wherever practical, the use of environmentally damaging substances, materials and processes by ourselves or via our third party procurements.
- Promoting sustainable modes of transport, for example, through our “Cycle to Work” scheme.
- Managing our grounds to protect and enhance biodiversity.
