The digital world is probably the most significant new feature of our lives in the twenty-first century, impacting how we interact with every aspect of our world. But is it making us act in new ways and creating new behaviours, or just allowing us to do what we were already doing in different forms? Is the internet shaping us, or do we shape it? And is the digital world a social force for good, or a negative? Around 2010, academic discussion of the internet was pretty positive, imagining it as a powerful tool for beneficial social change, but more recently worries about its corrosive effects on children's mental health and on the way we engage with politics have come to the fore. Join us we explore these key theories and debates.
