As Director of Apprenticeships at Manchester Met, Liz leads on the development and delivery of innovative degree apprenticeship programmes across the University. Liz and her team are now working with over 680 global corporates, public sector organisations, and SMEs to develop and successfully provide new future-focused routes into higher education that address high-priority skills shortages and support our essential key workers.
With over 2,800 apprentices on programme, including over 160 award winners, and high levels of apprentice and employer satisfaction, Liz and the team have successfully grown the portfolio. This growth has been achieved without compromising quality, as evidenced by the Outstanding rating received during an Ofsted inspection in 2022 – the first university to be awarded this accolade for apprenticeship provision.
Liz has been committed to Degree Apprenticeships since their inception. She regularly presents at conferences and has played an active role in many national trailblazer groups. Liz chairs an international network of universities who are developing Degree Apprenticeships and advises employers, universities and government bodies on setting up these innovative programmes in the UK, New Zealand, Spain, Australia and Canada. Previously holding senior roles in diverse education sectors, she has substantial experience of leadership and management and partnership development in a variety of settings. Liz received a well-deserved MBE in the 2023 King’s New Year’s Honours for services to Education and Skills.
