Summary

This breakout session will examine approaches to the sometimes unique challenges and opportunities faced by international students with regard to longer-term planning of their professional futures. These range from work visa restrictions in the host country, cultural differences in workplace expectations, language barriers and loss of connections and networking opportunities in their home country on the one hand. With their status as global citizens with enhanced intercultural and linguistic experiences and expertise on the other. The session will explore cultural competence in pathway and career advising, promote longer-range advice and early networking opportunities in students’ home countries delivered before they depart, and discuss alumni mentorship programs and the importance of students specifically showcasing their global competencies as a valuable asset
