Julie Ramsay

Biography

 Julie Ramsay is the Director of Admissions at the University of St Andrews (2011 to date). Julie is a linguist and her career to date has been in the service of British and International higher education. Cultural relations, diversity, and sustainability are fundamental to her professional practice. After studying French and Spanish at university, and teaching on the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) programme in Japan, she was successful in being awarded a scholarship to study a MSc in International Marketing at the University of Strathclyde, a world-leading Masters programme.

With over 20 years' experience in higher education including the British Council in Mexico, representing 8 Russell Group universities, and leading internationalisation activities at the Universities of Glasgow and Strathclyde, Julie now leads the University of St Andrews undergraduate and postgraduate admissions team. Leading a team of 50 colleagues, including three overseas teams in the USA, China and India and partners worldwide, Julie has responsibility for marketing, recruitment, admissions decision making, enquiry management, conversion, access, widening participation and outreach for all levels of study. Julie serves on a several strategic advisory boards including the UK's Department for Education, Universities' Scotland International Committee, and the USA College Board, and holds a national sector leading role as Chair of Scotland's Universities International Group (SUIG).
