I worked with Medic Mentor for three years, bringing ten years education experience from both private and government funded sectors to support my role as Head of Medic Mentor Education. Having joined Medic Mentor prior to the COVID-19 restrictions, lockdown provided a unique opportunity to have one to one training on the clinical admissions from doctors and vets who have worked within the admissions sector. Using my knowledge I have embraced the opportunity to provide CEIAG to teachers in a mentoring capacity, identifying a need for dedicated professional support with schools. Medic Mentor Education was established in May 2021, working with 500 schools directly and 5.5k indirectly within the first year, as well as our popular Facebook Page - Medic Mentor Teachers Resource Group with 1.7k members.
My focus remains working with teachers and careers leaders, having identified time pressures on professionals with careers/UCAS as a dual role and providing direct advice and guidance to either raise aspirations, manage expectations of applying students, conversion from application to offers and of course, careers resources to use within schools for achieving Gatsby Benchmarks. I am a passionate advocate for widening participation and helping inspire students from less represented backgrounds to consider these extremely rewarding career paths, believing socio-economic backgrounds should not be a barrier to considering entering into medicine, dentistry and veterinary professions.
