Apprenticeships at the Royal Shakespeare Company

Tuesday 4 October 2022 13:15 - 13:45

Summary

The Royal Shakespeare Company creates world class theatre, made in Stratford-upon-Avon and shared around the world. We perform plays by Shakespeare and his contemporaries, as well as commissioning a wide range of original work from contemporary writers. Our purpose is to ensure that Shakespeare is for everyone, unlocking the power of his plays and live performance, throughout the UK and across the world. We  are a national centre for teaching, training, learning and research about Shakespeare and theatre arts, providing training for emerging and established theatre makers and arts professionals, for teachers and for young people. As a learning organisation, we are committed to the principles of life-long learning and development and want to ensure that everyone has the chance to build, as well as share, their skills, knowledge and lived experiences.

We are developing, evolving, and embedding the concept of the RSC as a Teaching Theatre into our working culture using apprenticeships as a route for progression. Our apprentices are equipped for future employment in the theatre industry by learning from experts and being supported by mentors and learning providers in departments areas for example, Automation, Costume, Marketing, Venue Management, Catering, Prop making, Running Wardrobe, Scenic Engineering, Scenic Carpentry and Customer Services.

Apprenticeships are part of our ambition to work through our extended network of national school and theatre partners to create progression routes for people with under-represented protected characteristics and/or from lower socio-economic backgrounds, into targeted apprenticeship opportunities across all areas of our work.

Pritti Shoker, Apprenticeship and Training Manager will be introducing the apprenticeship programme at the Royal Shakespeare Company and upcoming opportunities to upskill and re-skill.
