Andy retired in 2011 from the post of Consultant Paediatrician/Neonatologist at University Hospital North Staffordshire where he had worked since 1985.
For seven years, was National Clinical Lead for Hospital Specialties at the Health and Social Care Information Centre. For 15 years he was the Lead Clinician for Partners in Paediatrics (PiP) and has been responsible for the development of a clinical network which now extends across most of the West Midlands. Its aim from the inception has been to improve the quality and accessibility of services for children. For seven years he was the lead clinician for the Staffordshire, Shropshire, and Black Country Newborn Network, and for nine months he was the Chair of the network.
In January 2013 he was appointed Clinical Director of the West Midlands Strategic Clinical Network for Maternity and Children, a post he held for a period of 13 months.
Since 2011, he has been Deputy Director of Admissions at Keele University Medical School with a remit to support widening participation.
