Kate Kettle

Associate Deputy Director of Widening Participation , King's College London

Kate is an Oxford graduate, with professional experience in corporate consulting and higher education. Kate is currently the Associate Deputy Director of Widening Participation at King's College London (KCL).

Widening participation is the opening up of the university to under-represented groups. Kings College London Widening Participation (KCLWP) are committed to finding the brightest minds, regardless of their background and supporting them in accessing higher education.

Kate joined KCL in 2017, having spent over four years at Balliol College, University of Oxford as the inaugural David Freeman Outreach and Student Support Officer.

Her role in KCLWP involves line managing two managers, and best supporting the work of the 17-strong team. Kate holds direct responsibility for BME (black and minority ethnic) recruitment strategy, financial monitoring, and fundraising in the department, as well as sitting on numerous internal and external committees and boards.

Kate is an experienced public speaker and welcomes opportunities to discuss her work, and engage the public. She has been interviewed by BBC's Newsnight on fair admissions to selective universities. Most recently, she sat on a panel discussing access to HE, which included Louise Richardson, Vice-Chancellor of University of Oxford.

Prior to working in social mobility, Kate was a corporate consultant at Accenture, working on public sector projects with a specialism in change management.

Kate holds a BA in History from Balliol College, University of Oxford, where she was Vice-President of the Junior Common Room (JCR), and a Pathfinders Award recipient.
