Phil has worked at Sheffield Hallam University since 2002 in a range of admissions-related roles, and is currently Head of Admissions. In this role, he leads the university’s centralised admissions function, which is responsible for delivering a high-quality applicant service across all markets and levels of study.
Following the recent changes to the basis on which providers can request information regarding an applicant’s criminal convictions, he worked with colleagues in Legal Services and Registry to redefine the university’s approach to the consideration of criminal convictions during the application process.
He is a member of the UCAS Teacher Training Advisory Group and the Qualifications Advisory Group. He is also a Trustee and Board member of CERTA, the Yorkshire-based Access Validating Agency, where he chairs the Access to HE Committee.
Phil studied earth sciences as an undergraduate, before completing a PHD at the University of Edinburgh, studying the geology of the island of Syros, Greece. After graduating he worked for HSBC before moving into higher education administration.
