Cal Courtney is Director of the Centre for Student Engagement, Wellbeing and Success (SEWS) at the London School of Business and Management (LSBM). SEWS provides traditional forms of student services, such as pastoral care, disability support, and academic development. Additionally, the team pioneer a range of innovative projects and schemes to promote student engagement and success, including an artist-in-residence project, co-curricular communications courses, weekly engagement cafes, and an anti-radicalisation programme called Encourage.
In 2015, Cal and his team worked with faculty to embed employability skills and training in the curricula of a new suite of validated degrees, to ensure employability is at the heart of all LSBM’s courses. Cal and his team are particularly committed to supporting students from widening participation backgrounds, as they make the transition into higher education and develop the skills of an independent learner. In 2017, LSBM scored an overall satisfaction rate of 95.2% in the National Student Survey.
