Differences in the chances of progression into higher education (HE) exist according to sex, socio-economic background, ethnic group, income, and other measures of equality. This session will first outline the UK-wide political impetus to address such gaps in representation.
Participants will then learn of the outcomes of UCAS’ latest equality report releases, as well as the findings of the report entitled ‘Minimising the risks of unconscious bias in university admissions: 2017 update on progress’.
We will also cover recent trends in equality across the sector from the 2017 and 2018 cycles, and the development of measures used to both assess and start to address the issue of equality, including the multiple equality measure (MEM).
