Student support

Brunel University of London offers a variety of support services to students.
While students are with us, there may be times when they need some extra advice or support. Whether the help they need relates to student life, finances or studying, Brunel is ready to lend a hand. The support is available through one point of access so that students can identify which service is best for their individual needs.

Health services
Brunel has a medical centre on campus which is open from 8am to 6.30pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, with extended opening hours to 8.30pm on Wednesdays. There is also a pharmacy next door where students can pick up prescriptions.

Disability support
The University's campus and facilities are recognised as some of the best in the country for disabled students. Brunel offers advice and support to students with a range of abilities, including those with dyslexia and other specific learning disabilities, Asperger syndrome, mobility and sensory impairments and unseen disabilities such as epilepsy, diabetes, arthritis and sickle cell anaemia. There is a range of facilities and equipment, some of which is available for students to loan, and an Assistive Technology Centre which has software that can help students study. Disability advisers arrange support individually with each student and the service is confidential.

Counselling and mental wellbeing
Brunel is committed to supporting students' mental health and wellbeing – offering a variety of services which are free to all Brunel students.

Financial support
The Student Centre helps students with financial concerns. They can book an appointment with the Welfare Team who can advise them of the support available. These sessions are free and confidential.

Academic skills
The Academic Skills team (ASK) provides a welcoming and inclusive environment, offering guidance in writing and learning, as well as in maths and statistics. They help students develop academic and research skills, as well as how to study more effectively and independently, for life-long learning.

Brunel Language Centre
For students whose first language isn’t English, Brunel Language Centre offers additional support through individual academic consultations, group classes and workshops. Areas covered include academic writing (eg technical reports, critiques, proposals and dissertations), seminar skills, presentations, reading and listening skills, pronunciation and grammar.

Faith and religion
Students can unwind and explore faith and spirituality at appropriate prayer facilities around campus. The Meeting House is a dedicated space where students can enjoy the Quiet Room or relax with tea in the lounge. Chaplains from Christian and Muslim faiths are available throughout the week.

Keeping students safe
Brunel helps keep students safe 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the whole year, both on and off-campus. They provide campus security, parking enforcement and crime prevention. All security staff are trained First Responders and accredited by the London Ambulance Service as well as being trained in mental health first aid, so they can provide pastoral care and welfare support. They can also advise students about crime prevention.
