Choose Wakefield
Choosing where to study is a big decision and we’re all different individuals. Our focus is on teaching and learning, giving all students, regardless of their starting point, the best chance in achieving their ambitions. It really is as simple as that.
Today, the College has its base in three major areas as well as delivering learning in community settings and workplaces around the District. Our College is committed to working in partnership with local schools, employers and learning providers to transform learning, attainment, achievement and progression for everyone in the District.
The College is home to over 7,000 students, of all ages and abilities, studying a broad range of courses, from pre-entry level through to higher education and professional qualifications.
University Level Courses
You don’t have to go to university to get a degree! We offer high-quality teaching in a supportive learning environment, but with lower fees and closer to home.
Whether you want to study higher education to change your career, to boost your career prospects further after finishing a Level 3 course, or to expand your knowledge with a professional qualification, we’ve got a course for you.
But don’t just take our word for it... here are quotes from the Quality Standards Audit undertaken this year by the QAA:
“Wakefield College aims to enhance student employability opportunities and to respond to identified skills gaps in the area. The College sees employability as being of strategic importance to its curriculum planning. All of the College’s foundation degrees have specific modules with a focus on employability. The College has strong relationships with employers, who are involved in programmes in a number of ways.”
“Employers provide placements on some programmes, a wide range of other work-based learning opportunities on other programmes, opportunities for students to undertake live projects, and guest speakers, and attend open days.”
“The Destination of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) survey shows a good upward trend in employability; in 2013-14, 97 per cent of students had progressed into employment or further study. The College has a clear strategy and effective practices for developing employability across all aspects of its higher education provision.”
Fees & Funding
At University Centre Wakefield we believe that pricing people out of higher education would devalue our institution by not allowing such a diverse range of students to continue their education.
Our tuition full-time tuition fees for 2017 at £6600 will be substantially less than most universities. This means that, all our full-time higher education students will have significantly less to pay back once they have completed their studies and are in work. As fees for part-time courses vary, please refer to relevant course leaflets.
